Baptism

Godparents:

At least one must be a practicing Catholic, and will be required to obtain a sponsor certificate from their parish stating that they are 16 years of age or older; have received the Sacrament of Confirmation; are an active member of the parish and in good standing with the Church.

Choosing Godparents:

It is a tremendous honor to be asked to fill the role of godparent. A godparent’s role in Baptism is to help the parents of the child raise the child in the Catholic faith. It is an active, ongoing role throughout the child’s life and not something the godparent does only if the parents are not available. In order for the godparent to help the child grow in faith, their own faith life must be active and a good model for the child to follow. Church law requires that godparents who are Catholic have received the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation.

We would be very happy to welcome your child as a new member of our parish community through the Sacrament of Baptism. It would be our hope that you are choosing St. Pio Parish because this will be the spiritual community where you intend to raise the child as an active, participating member.

Requirements:

Once your child has arrived, please call the parish office at (860) 388-3787 to make arrangements for the Baptism. The parents of the child must be registered members of St. Pio. A Baptism Preparation class is required for the parents of a first child. Godparents are also welcome to attend that class which is held on the first Tuesday of the month in the evening with Deacon Nick Iassogna. You must register ahead of time for the class.
